Cooler temperatures this spring will lead to season-long issues

Early this spring, farmers were able to get in their fields and start planting — especially in the southern part of the country. Since then, the entire nation has experienced much cooler temperatures for a prolonged period of time. This has caused the early planted crops to be under high stress levels, producing yellow corn, slow growth, and in some cases frost and freeze-damage. The biggest issue has been not only cooler day temperatures, but very cool night time temperatures, which has resulted in slow growing crops and pale colors due to a lack of photosynthesis.

Many parts of the country are just beginning to plant for this growing season. So the question arises… “what can I do for my early planted crop, as well as prepare for my late-planted crops, to maximize yield potential this season?” When it comes to the early planted crop that is under the stress of slow growing and pale color, this is where many of Monty’s foliar products can help rescue these plants. Yes, yield has been compromised on these early planted crops, but foliar application can stabilize and help take crops to their maximum yield potential the rest of the season.

Since planting is delayed this season in many of the northern areas of the country, you need to go above and beyond your normal seeding practices with an application of Monty’s Liquid Carbon. Monty’s Liquid Carbon is a soil conditioner that features our activated humic technology. It works immediately to address issues associated with cool, wet conditions. Under these conditions, much of the oxygen has been depleted from the soil. Monty’s activated humic technology, by reducing compaction, helps replenish oxygen and stimulate the soil biology which had been suffocated. Allowing air and water to move through the soil profile improves the overall health of the soil throughout the growing season.

LiquidCarbonAt planting, you’ll get the best results by adding Monty’s Liquid Carbon in the row on the seed, or as 2×2 with your current starter. Monty’s Liquid Carbon may also be applied with pre-chemical applications or at burn down.

“You need to give your seeds the best soil conditions to germinate and thrive in,” says Joe Dedman, Monty’s Vice President of Agronomy. “Adding a product such as Monty’s Liquid Carbon to the soil at the same time as your starter enhances a plant’s micronutrient uptake giving it an added accelerant to enhance growth. Monty’s Liquid Carbon also increases microbial activity and helps improve moisture management.”

Whether their crops were planted early or late, growers can benefit from Monty’s line of foliar products. Products which are specifically designed to provide solutions to issues we have encountered this growing season include: Microhance (six important nutrients), K28 (liquid potash), Sulfur 15, and Agri-Sweet (high energy and high carbohydrate designed to provide beneficial sugars to the plant).
