Monty’s Microhance helps farmers dramatically improve fertigation process!

It’s an increasingly common sight on southeastern farms: a tanker arrives, pulls up to an 1100-gallon tank, and tops it off with Monty’s Microhance. Thanks to a new partnership between area Southern States dealers and Monty’s, farmers are taking advantage of a Microhance bulk fertigation program that’s helping them dramatically improve their fertigation and cost-efficiency: at application rates of just 1 to 2 quarts per acre.

Fertigation is the injection of fertilizers, soil amendments, or other water-soluble products into an irrigation system. It is used to add additional nutrients or to correct nutrient deficiencies detected in plant tissue analysis. Fertigation increases nutrient absorption by plants, and farmers can also see a reduction in fertilizer, chemical, and water usage.

Why Microhance? Monty’s Product Consultant Michael Thompson says Microhance is “basically a protein bar for crops. It can be foliar-applied at any stage of growth, on any crop, with any irrigation system.

“It’s the ideal balance of nitrogen, boron, sulfur, manganese, iron, and zinc. Because all the micronutrients are chelated, they are immediately available to be taken up by the plants. Better still, fertigating Microhance can help keep micronutrients from leaching.

Thompson says, “You can mix Microhance with almost anything; fertilizer, fungicide, and herbicides. Basically, whenever you irrigate, Microhance feeds your plants, which can help them withstand periods of stress – because once you’re seeing signs of stress or something like a deficiency, you’re already behind. So, growers are starting to use it as a preventative, because they’re getting a package of six nutrients that is effective at a cost-effective, low application rate.”

Warren Kearns, Agronomy Sales Manager for Southern States, helped engineer the new bulk program because he believes Microhance has real advantages for his region’s farmers. He describes using Microhance as “spoon feeding” plants, which allows them to properly and fully metabolize the nutrients they need at the right time for better uptake. “Microhance is all about efficiency. You’re getting so much in such a small package … the majors and the minors that you need, with so little waste or runoff. It’s the single most important substance in sustainable Ag today. Southern States wants to give our farmers every opportunity to succeed, and this program helps with that.”

Microhance works with any kind of irrigation system, and adding it to the mix is, as Thompson says, “as easy as turning on a pump.” For just pennies an acre, farmers can enhance their plants’ health, and their yield potential.

Thompson says with the Southern States tank-and-credit program “People are buying thousands of gallons of Microhance!” This new tank partnership with Southern States is helping more South Carolina and Georgia farmers see how simple, efficient, and affordable it is to work a little Microhance into their routines. It’s definitely time for other growers to take a look, too.
